Juneteenth Ferndale!
What a day! About 60 guests visited us in Pioneer Park as we celebrated Juneteenth with games, henna tattoos, history, inspiring speeches, and DELICOUS food. A great day was had by all! MANY thanks to the Whatcom Community Foundation for their Project neighborly grant that made this event possible, as well as Dawson construction for their generous donation. Bingo SUCCESS!
Beach Bingo 2026 was a smashing success! We had so much fun, and are so GREATFUL to all of you for coming out. Our new venue was awesome, music bingo was a HIT, Airreekah rocked the DJ booth and Melinda called some fantastic bingo! We had a great time and together we raised just over $23,000 for Ferndale Community Services programs and services. THANK YOU!!!!
Your support means so much to us. Thank you for the enthusiasm, the great beach wear, dancing with us, and more. We can’t do this without our COMMUNITY!

25-26 Severe Weather Shelter Season was a success!
Every year, the doors of United Church of Ferndale open on cold winter evenings to invite unhoused neighbors from across North Whatcom County in for a warm, safe place to sleep. This year was no exception! But this year was a little different. We noticed something- people were setting and achieving goals. By the end of the season, 13 of the 69 individuals who’d stayed at the shelter were housed. And several more had entered into programs to help them achieve long term goals- like treatment, housing, and settling legal issues.
It’s always an honor to provide winter shelter. But seeing so many folks make such amazing progress made this year especially fun! We are so thankful to our partners who fund us and provide space. And we are especially thankful to our own internal teams, who worked together and closely this year, and provided the opportunity for change.
Congratulations to our shelter team, Ryan and Kei, and all the attendants and volunteers who made the shelter happen this year. And MANY thanks to the Bridge 2 Services and Resource Center teams, who went above and beyond to serve, connect, and support shelter guests. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Are you interested in supporting folks in our community who menstruate? Host a Period Party!
Every person with a uterus menstruates at some point in their lives, and menstrual products are some of the most expensive hygiene products out there! That’s why we include pads and tampons in our Other Bank program. Last year we gave away 13,612 maxi pads and 4,401 tampons, and this year we will likely double those numbers!
To help us keep up with the demand for these items, we are looking for volunteers to host a Period Party. Period Parties are opportunities for people to get together for some fun, and to donate period products that can be shared. They can take place at your favorite watering hole, or in your own home, and you can make is fancy (or not) as you want. Our last Period Party was held in a brewery and featured a custom art piece and a period trivia game. Attendees donated over 5,000 period products!
